Manual Turnout Throws How To
By Interurban
This may help some folk, It really helped me.
It`s cheap , easy to install, and reliable.
The reasone I used this old method ? I have a LOT of overhead in a big electric yard and throwing the turnouts had to be done right, It would have cost a bomb to by electric powered throws. Reaching in was not an option
Here goes.
First thing is to mark on the table where the points on the turnout will be.
Drill a 1/2inch hole so you have lots of room to play with.
The type of switch you will see are very common and cheap
You can even power them up to allow surface lights near the turnout
When you install the rod you will have to shape it to fit around the switch to have a nice clean push pull action.
You also can hide the hook under the bench and just reach under to throw the switch.
This will reach through 1/2inch bench top.
These picture show you where I used them.
Hope it helps, If you can not understand my ramblings let me know.
This drawing shows a manual throw fitted on TOP of the bench.
Picture shows one of many I fitted to my old L/O
