My good friend, Dr. Volker, has acquired an old steam engine and restored it to operation.

Hi Jon,
after all the restauration work last year; today was the day! First
operation of my big steam engine.
After having made a pressure test with water up to 4 bar (58 psi) last week,
the tank of the engine was filled with 4 liters of destilled water, the gas
bottle was connected, the heater was ignited and waiting, waiting, what
would happen.
After some 5 minutes first burbling sounds came on, got more and more
intense and the needle of the pressure gauge started moving. At 0.7 bar the engine
commenced operation. Slowly at first and then faster and faster until it was
stabily running at 1 bar (14 psi) which is nominal operational pressure.
With the heater at low setting the engine was running real smothly. Imagine
that big smile on my face when I saw this beauty running again after some 60
years (it was built in the mid 40ies).
Tomorrow I will record a movie with my digital camera; maybe I can send you
this file, but 1 minute is 20 MB.
What is your size limit for emails?
For today, enjoy the enclosed still images!
But now it's time to open the one or other bottle of good beer; it's
celebration day!
All the best
Volker |

OH MY , I love it !! I had a couple of steam engines. Mine were not as big as that beauty though. I managed to get one going again by building a new boiler for it. It had enough juice to power a couple of toy machines.
There's nothing like live steam in action, very cool.

I wish it were mine. I don't know what I would do with it, but love it and care for it.

That is WAY COOL, man!
My first thought when I saw it was wonder how many HP? Would it be enough to pwer say, a RIDING MOWER?
Would that not be AWESOME?
I might be willing to get a second 2nd mortgage for one o’ those babies! (What?…Oh nothing honey…No, that’s not what I said… )

Dr. Volker was so kind to send some updates. Hes has painted the firebox with some high temp paint and set it up in a permanent location. Nice work Dr. V! He promises some updates to run on a more exciting fuel
