I noticed today that the mine made an appearance in Carl Arednt's SMALL LayoutScrapbook in April. I guess I should visit his site more often. ROF

The mine layout runs so well that last show, in Nov 2008, I just set it up, turned it on, and went shopping and then went up front to work the door. The guy on the layout next to it was keeping an eye on it and something happened and there was a derailment and one of the cars and the locomotive went to the bottom of the concrete canyon. The locomotive survived with only the cab coming off and the air tank falling off. The tank was quickly attached with a bit of ca and it was back in business, but the ore car was beyond field repair with both coupler screws stripped out. So the rest of the show it ran with only one ore car.

So I found a piece of spru the right size and drilled out the holes and epoxied the spru in. I then marked and drilled holes for "cotter pins" with a 78 bit.

I then put it together and made the pins from the leads off a 1/8 watt resistor. Fix...ed.

I also cleaned the wheels on the locomotive, oiled the motor and gears, and glued the stack back solid as it had broke loose in the fall, but gravity held it in. Ready for the Bentonville show Feb 28, 2009.

The engineer came off a long time ago, I glued him on with clear silicon and he never has came off since.
